QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
WHO IS GAS TANK SEALER USED BY?
PEOPLE WHO RESTORE, REBUILD, OR REPAIR CARS, BOATS OR ANY OTHER TYPE VEHICLE WITH A FUEL TANK; FIRMS
WITH FUEL STORAGE TANKS OR PEOPLE WHO HAVE A TANK THAT NEEDS REPAIRING.

WHAT KIND OF PROBLEMS REQUIRE GAS TANK SEALER?
1. TANKS THAT HAVE RUST INSIDE DUE TO YEARS OF NOT BEING USED.
2. TANKS THAT HAVE AN ACCUMULATION OF "GOO" OR SLUDGE INSIDE WHICH MUST BE REMOVED BEFORE COATING
WITH SEALER.
3. TANKS THAT MAY HAVE SEAM LEAKS OR PINHOLE LEAKS.
4. TANKS THAT MAY HAVE ANY OR ALL OF THE ABOVE PROBLEMS.

CAN A TANK BE TREATED WITHOUT REMOVING IT FROM THE VEHICLE?
IN MOST CASES, NO! ONCE IN A WHILE, IF A TANK HAS A MINOR PINHOLE LEAK AT THE BOTTOM AND YOU CAN SEE IT
FROM THE FILLER HOLE, IT MAY BE ABLE TO BE TREATED WITHOUT REMOVING THE TANK, BUT TO PROPERLY SEAL A
TANK, IT MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE.

WHY IS BILL HIRSCH'S GAS TANK SEALER THE BEST ON THE MARKET?
IT IS BETTER BECAUSE IT SEALS HOLES AND SEAMS FAR BETTER THAN ANY OTHER SEALER. IT HAS GREATER
STRENGTH AND AT THE SAME TIME HAS THE FLEXIBILITY THAT A PRODUCT OF THIS TYPE IS REQUIRED TO HAVE;
SOMETHING OTHER SEALERS DO NOT HAVE. IT IS A NON-POROUS COATING AND IS NOT AFFECTED BY ALCOHOL OR
FUEL MOST FUEL ADDITIVES. IT WILL WORK ON ALL TYPES OF TANKS SUCH AS STEEL, ALUMINUM, GALVANIZED, &
FIBERGLASS WHEREAS OTHER SEALERS WILL NOT WORK ON SOME OF THESE METALS . IT IS NOT A MOISTURE
CURED URETHANE PAINT THAT IS SOLD BY ONE U.S. COMPANY AS A GAS TANK SEALER. THEIR OWN ADVERTISING
TELLS YOU THAT IT IS MOISTURE CURED AND THAT ONCE YOU OPEN THE CAN YOU CANNOT RE-USE IT. THIS TYPE
OF SEALER, USUALLY A LIGHT GRAY OR SILVER WILL NOT STICK TO THE INTERIOR SURFACE OF MOST TANKS FOR
VERY LONG AND GENERALLY 6-12 MONTHS LATER, WILL BREAK AWAY FROM THE INSIDE OF THE TANK AND WILL
TURN INTO A FLOATING PLASTIC BAG INSIDE OF THE TANK. THAT TYPE OF ITEM WHILE BEING RESISTANT TO
ALCOHOL WAS NEVER INTENDED TO BE A TANK SEALER AND SHOULD NEVER BE USED IN A FUEL TANK.

DOES BILL HIRSCH'S GAS TANK SEALER HAVE " RUST INHIBITORS" THAT SOME OTHERS DO NOT HAVE?
ALL WHITE OR YELLOW SEALERS ON THE MARKET HAVE RUST INHIBITORS IN THEM. ONE PRODUCT SOLD AS A
SEALER, WHICH IS A MOISTURE CURED URETHANE, HAS NO RUST INHIBITORS IN IT AT ALL AND YOUR TANK CAN
RUST RIGHT UNDER THEIR COATING. THE MANUFACTURER CLAIMS THAT BECAUSE IT SEALS OUT MOISTURE, THAT IT
HAS RUST INHIBITORS. THIS IS NOT SO. YOUR TANK CAN RUST UNDERNEATH THAT TYPE OF COATING BECAUSE IT
ATTRACTS MOISTURE.

HOW MANY DIFFERENT KINDS OF GAS TANK SEALER ARE THERE?
THERE ARE REALLY ONLY 2 TYPES OTHER THAN BILL HIRSCH'S WHITE ALCOHOL RESISTANT SEALER. (1) A PVC
TYPE NON CURING YELLOW SEALER WHICH HAS BEEN IN USE FOR OVER 50 YEARS. IT HAS GREAT SEALING
QUALITIES, RUST INHIBITORS, AND REMAINS VERY FLEXIBLE. IT IS AN EXCELLENT SEALER, BUT NOT RECOMMENDED
WHERE FUELS CONTAINING ALCOHOL WILL BE USED, AS ALCOHOL WILL DISSOLVE THIS SEALER. (2) A MOISTURE
CURED URETHANE SOLD AS A SEALER BUT WHICH IS NOTHING MORE THAN A LIGHT GRAY OR SILVER PAINT. AS
DESCRIBED ABOVE, THIS PRODUCT HAS NO RUST INHIBITORS, WILL NOT ADHERE WELL TO SOME TANK INTERIORS
AND IS NOT RE-USABLE.

IS BILL HIRSCH'S GAS TANK SEALER "HAZARDOUS"?
ALL CHEMICAL PRODUCTS ARE HAZARDOUS! ALL SHOULD BE USED WITH EXTREME CAUTION. THERE IS NO SUCH
THING AS A NON-HAZARDOUS SEALER.

WHAT PREPARATION IS REQUIRED?
BILL HIRSH'S GAS TANK SEALER IS DESIGNED TO BE APPLIED RIGHT OVER LIGHT SURFACE RUST. IF YOUR TANK SUFFERS FROM A
BUILD UP OF GUM AND SLUDGE DEPOSITS IT SHOULD BE PROFESSIONALLY STEAM CLEANED FIRST AND THEN BE TREATED WITH BILL HIRSCH GAS
TANK ETCH CLEANER

IS IT ALWAYS NECESSARY TO SEAL A TANK AFTER IT HAS BEEN CLEANED?
NO. SEALER IS A LAST RESORT. TANKS THAT ARE RUST AND GUM FREE THAT HAVE
NO PINHOLES OR LEAKS DO NOT NEED SEALER. IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT TANKS BE KEPT FULL
WITH FUEL AT ALL TIMES, ESPECIALLY DURING STORAGE. THIS PREVENTS CONDENSATION AND FURTHER
RUSTING. BUT IF VEHICLES ARE NOT USED FREQUENTLY OR ARE STORED FOR MORE THAN 2-3 MONTHS AT
A TIME, THEY SHOULD BE TREATED WITH BILL HIRSCH'S GASOLINE PRESERVATIVE AND STABILIZER. THIS
WILL KEEP THE GASOLINE FRESH FOR UP TO FIVE YEARS AND WILL ENSURE QUICK TROUBLE FREE
STARTING AFTER MONTHS OF NON USE.

CAN BILL HIRSCH'S SEALER BE RE-USED?
YES!! UNLIKE THE POR PRODUCT THAT MUST BE DISCARDED AFTER THE CAN IS OPENED, BILL HIRSCH'S

SEALER IS RE-USABLE IF IT IS NOT ALL USED IN ONE APPLICATION.  FURTHER IF BILL HIRSCH SEALER
THICKENS AFTER A LONG PERIOD OF NON USE, IT CAN BE RE-THINNED WITH METHYL ETHYL KETONE (MEK).

CAN I REMOVE BILL'S HIRSCH' SEALER FROM THE INSIDE OF MY TANK?
YES, WHILE IT IS DIFFICULT, IT CAN BE REMOVED, WHERE OTHER SEALERS CANNOT.
PROFESSIONAL RADIATOR REPAIR SHOPS AND "READY-STRIP" SHOPS CAN EASILY DO THIS. YOU CAN ALSO
USE PAINT REMOVER AND METHYL ETHYL KETONE (MEK).

CAUTION!
BEFORE INTRODUCING SEALER INTO THE TANK, THE ENTIRE INTERIOR OF THE TANK MUST BE DRY. IF ONLY
ONE SMALL AREA OF THE TANK IS NOT DRY OR HAS FOREIGN MATTER THAT MAY KEEP THE SEALER FROM
ADHERING, THE SEALER WILL NOT STICK TO THOSE AREAS AND COULD COME LOOSE AND FLOAT AROUND
IN YOUR TANK AND EVENTUALLY COME THROUGH THE FUEL PICK UP TUBE AND CLOG THE FUEL PUMP AND
CARBURETOR. THE SOLVENT FOR THIS SEALER IS METHYL ETHYL KETONE (MEK). BEFORE INTRODUCING
ANY ADDITIVES TO FUEL TANK AFTER SEALER HAS BEEN INSTALLED, BE SURE THAT THE PRODUCT YOU
INTRODUCE DOES NOT CONTAIN (MEK). (MEK) CAN SOFTEN AND LOOSEN THE SEALER WHICH IN TURN CAN
CLOG YOUR FUEL LINES, CARBURETOR, ETC. AVOID USING "GUMOUT" OR SIMILAR PRODUCTS WHICH HAVE
BEEN KNOWN TO USE (MEK).
IF SEALER IS BEING USED IN A DIESEL TANK, THE TANK MUST BE THOROUGHLY CLEANED OUT
BEFORE INTRODUCING SEALER.- IF SEALER IS BEING USED IN A FIBREGLASS TANK, ALL OPEN EDGES OF TANK MUST BE SEALED SO THAT FUEL
CANNOT WICK ITS WAY THROUGH ANY OPEN EDGES- IF IN DOUBT, CALL US ON OUR TOLL FREE LINE.
FINAL NOTE!!
OVER 3 MILLION CANS OF BILL HIRSCH'S SEALER HAVE BEEN SOLD IN OVER 40 COUNTRIES SINCE IT WAS
INTRODUCED 40 YEARS AGO. MORE BILL HIRSCH SEALER HAS BEEN SOLD THROUGHOUT THE WORLD THAN
ALL OTHER BRANDS COMBINED. IT IS STILL THE LARGEST SELLING SEALER AND IS THE ONLY TYPE SEALER
USED IN AIRCRAFT. WE DO NOT KNOWINGLY SELL THIS PRODUCT FOR USE IN AIRCRAFT SINCE WE CANNOT
CONTROL ITS APPLICATION OR END USE.

FOR BEST RESULTS USE WHEN TEMPERATURE IS 60 F OR HIGHER.
