Reconditioned Exchange Gearboxes

Reconditioned gearboxes are sold on an exchange basis. We can supply the full range of manual gearboxes both for overdrive and non-overdrive cars.

We do not sell gearboxes direct on-line as we need to check the box you wish to buy is right and correct for your car - please get in touch by using the email form.

All boxes are built to correct factory specification except for early Herald and Spitfire boxes which can be upgraded to synchromesh equipped on all forward gears.
Prices are between £490 and £790

Notes on gearboxes:
1) What we supply is the gearbox itself - it doesn't come with ancillaries fitted such as the clutch assembly, hydraulic cylinder, remote mechanism & gearlever, or in the case of overdrive cars the overdrive assembly. We can supply ancillaries if requested at additional cost but most customers would re-use their current ancillaries.
Please see the pictures of our reconditioned gearboxes to see what is and isn't supplied with a recon gearbox - in particular note that overdrive gearboxes are supplied complete with the overdrive adapter plate - so when you supply yours for exchange you would need to include this plate so as we can recondition it for the next customer.
2) Please note that if you have a non-overdrive car you cannot simply substitute an overdrive gearbox for a non-overdrive version (as the linkage, propshaft, mounting plate etc are all different). We can sometimes supply an overdrive conversion kit consisting mainly of gearbox, adapter plate, overdrive, solenoid, chassis plate, mount, speedo cable & angle drive, propshaft. Cost depends on vehicle and overdrive type, count upwards from £2600. Please send an email if interested.

Used gearboxes:
With the increasing rarity of Triumph gearboxes we no longer sell used overdrive gearboxes as we rebuild all that are rebuildable. Occasionaly we may have a used non-overdrive gearbox for sale, so its worth an ask.

Autoboxes:
We only supply manual boxes as we do not have the parts or know-how for auto boxes. Triumph auto boxes were basically just bought-in units from Borg Warner and we have used and recommend Richard at Alders Automotive

Exchange Surcharge Principle

What is an "Exchange Surcharge"?
Where reconditioned parts are sold on an exchange basis an "exchange surcharge" is applied – a deposit that is refunded to you when your old unit is received by us. This system operates to allow the continued use of the vehicle while replacing parts and is aimed at reducing vehicle "downtime" to a minimum. Should an exchange unit supplied by you not be fit for reconditioning then you will not receive the deposit surcharge back, and the part will be returned to you. As a rule of thumb if you are able to use your current unit as in it will propel the car down the road then it will be rebuildable, but if in doubt please ask. Examples of the main problems encountered are dismantled boxes with parts missing, sheared shafts, or the wrong specification item (eg GT6 unit instead of Spitfire unit). Please drain return units of oil & return to us within 90 days of receiving your reconditioned unit.

When we receive your old unit we will attempt to examine and process your return with 5 working days and we guarantee to do so within 20 working days.

Sometimes in the event of rare items we are not able to supply an exchange unit, in which case your own part will have to be rebuilt, if serviceable.
To summarise: we want your old unit back so as we can rebuild it for the next customer.
